Sycamore– Sycamore police have arrested Brendan Lai (41) of Chicago on theft and methamphetamine charges.
On Nov. 27, Lai was reported having stolen $300 worth of merchandise from Menards, 1825 Mercantile Dr., Sycamore.
Sycamore police officers were dispatched at 3 p.m. to respond to the retail theft. With assistance from Menards Loss Prevention, police were able to locate Lai at a nearby business shortly afterwards.
During processing, Lai was found with a substance on his person that when tested showed to be 40 grams of methamphetamine. Lai was arrested on additional charges.
Lai is currently being charged with retail theft, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and unlawful intent to deliver methamphetamine.
Unlawful intent to deliver methamphetamine is usually because officers may have found items on a person, such as baggies or scales, that indicate intent to sell, according to deputy chief of Sycamore police Jeff Wig.
Lai was not tested by Sycamore police on whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol Wig said.
Currently Lai is detained at the DeKalb County jail and awaiting a detention hearing from a judge with no word yet on when or if it has happened yet Wig said.
