Be swept away by devilish deals, or if you’re up to it, listen to others’ experiences dealing with anxiety. From fresh new plays to student showcases, the School of Theatre and Dance has something for everyone this upcoming season.
“Anxious People!”
Written by Carol Lee and directed by Alys Dickerson, “Anxious People!” is performed as a series of stories, both real and fictional, about the stress of dealing with anxiety.
Opening weekend starts at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in the Stevens Building, at the Sally Stevens Players Theatre. Additional performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22 and 2 p.m. Feb. 24.
“Witch”
“Witch” is a play written by Jen Silverman and directed by Kendra Holton. The play is set in modern times and deals with the classic “deal with the devil” trope. This dramatic comedy attempts to look at the worth we place on our souls.
The performances for the play will begin at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Black Box Theatre at the Stevens Building. Additional showings will take place on Feb. 24, Feb. 25 and Feb. 29 to March 2.
“Something, Somewhere, Somehow”
“Something, Somewhere, Somehow” was written by Alexander Perez and is directed by Frankie DiCiaccio. The story follows Lucille, a Broadway star, as she attempts to switch to television and the struggles she faces along the way.
This show will make its first full run at NIU, according to New Play Exchange. The initial showing will take place at 7:30 p.m. April 5 to 6 and at 2 p.m. on April 7 in the Black Box Theatre at the Stevens Building. More showings will be taking place April 11 to April 13.
ACTORS SHOWCASE
This show will highlight the talent of NIU’s acting students and will be directed by School of Theatre and Dance professor Alexander Gelman.
The current date and times are to be determined but will be announced in the spring semester, according to Gelman.
SPRING DANCE CONCERT
The annual Spring Dance Concert will be directed by Marc Macaranas and Sarita Smith Childs. The concert will feature performances by students in the dance program.
Shows will take place from April 25 to April 28 and will be held at the Stevens Building in the O’Connell Theatre. The theme for this year’s event has yet to be announced.

Tickets must be purchased online at niumusic.universitytickets.com prior to any show. NIU students can receive free tickets but must still register online. Ticket prices vary depending on the show but are discounted for non-NIU students and seniors.
