The average cost per gallon of gas in the United States has risen 4.5 cents in the past week, bringing the national average to $3.07.

“We’ve seen the national average price of gasoline bounce back up after cold weather related refinery shutdowns pushed up the wholesale price of gasoline,” said head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy Patrick De Haan. “Recent GDP data and new attacks in the Red Sea have pushed oil prices to their highest level since November.”
Gasoline prices averaged $3.37 a gallon in the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin area in December 2023. Peoria’s average gas price climbed to $3.23 per gallon, rising 16 cents from last week, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
