A meeting will be held Tuesday for students interested in trying out for the NIU softball team, head coach Dee Abrahamson said.

Those wishing to walk-on need to be in Room 128 of the Chick Evans Field House at 9 p.m., equipped with their class schedule. Tuesday’s session will be the prelude to the actual tryouts.

“It’s an informational meeting,” she said. “We want to get them through the paper work. If they can’t come, they should call my office and leave their name and phone number.”

If everything goes to plan, Abrahamson said the students who make the team will be eligible to play in NIU’s September 22 season opener against Indiana State University.

“If they can hit, we’ll find a place for them,” Abrahamson said. “We’ve always kept one walk-on. Most of them become scholarship players.”
