DeKALB – Seance at Tiffany’s, a new store in downtown DeKalb, had their grand opening Feb. 22 welcoming in their new neighbors and customers with cupcakes and a charcuterie board.
The boutique, which is located at 150 E. Lincoln Highway in downtown DeKalb, is run by co-owners and sisters-in-law Shari Potter and Randi Lockhart.
“We started doing festivals, and fairs, and craft markets, and everyone was like, ‘where’s your shop? Where’s your shop?’” said Lockhart. “And so we decided let’s go for it.”
Seance at Tiffany’s is a metaphysical boutique and healing arts studio offering tarot card readings, an assortment of mystical items, seances and permanent makeup is coming soon.
“The store is named after not only a play on words with ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s,’ but also Shari’s sister Tiffany,” Lockhart said. “Tiffany passed away and that’s what started Shari on her metaphysical journey, and I lost my mom, so the name is just very sentimental to us.”
The owners make and/or select almost every product in the shop. They make the candles, bottle herbs and hand-pick crystals. Everything in the store contains their own personal touches.
Potter performs tarot card readings and maintains the metaphysical half of the store while Lockhart focuses on the healing arts studio.
“I just received a reading from Shari, and she told me things I have never told anyone,” said Molly Paez, a sophomore computer science major at Lewis University. “I will definitely be coming back to DeKalb to visit this store again.”
Potter performs various types of tarot readings such as individual readings, couples readings or the Reading of Threes which looks at customers past, present and future. Other reading types are available as well.
Another service offered is seances which involves connecting with spirits that wish to speak to the customer. Potter performed many readings throughout the grand opening.
Lockhart is skilled and certified in permanent makeup, or cosmetic tattooing. Lasting three to five years, permanent makeup services can enhance already given features or add new features to one’s face including, but not limited to, freckles, eyeliner or lip blush. Seance at Tiffany’s is not yet offering this service, but the service is coming soon.
Another service in the works are classes. Owners Lockhart and Potter wish to hold candle-making classes, herb kit-making classes and many more.
“I’ve always wanted to learn more about spiritual things, so I hope they have a class that relates to that,” said Taylor Lipe, a sophomore special education student at NIU.
The tentative store hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with the boutique closed on Sundays and Mondays.
