Darius Jackson is a co-founder who aims to help represent those seeking an outlet for self-expression.
Four Poets One Mic is an organization where students can voice their concerns in a creative yet constructive way, bringing up topics like social issues.
Performing poetry allows poets to self-reflect and heal in a safe space creatively while having the potential to inspire others with their words.
Jackson, co-founder and member of the group, acknowledged the importance of representation and its significance.
“Simple poetry typically represents the Black and Latinx community, the concerns, the struggles,” Jackson said.
Poets will take the time to create original works for their sets. Writing can help a poet become more creative and think innovatively with their words.
Those in the group will work with others collaborating, work on their writing skills, as well as be open to the art of poetry.
Jackson also noted those joining will create original pieces to perform for the audience and future events.
The group invites those looking for a good time and others who can relate to the poets during the piece if they can.
Currently, there are four poets in the group, Nani Nichae, Paige Monet, Leaux the Heaux and Syd da Kyd.
Even those not part of the Black or Latinx community are welcomed and encouraged to come to events for fun or to support.
Poetry influences people to connect with many different backgrounds.
The goal is for those attending to get inspired by poets or just to simply enjoy themselves.
Thought-provoking pieces by poets have the potential to inspire someone else to begin poetry or even attend more events.
