New NIU coach Brian Hammel will probably never have a chance to coach Mike Lipnisky, one of the most highly touted freshman basketball players to ever sign with the Huskies.

That’s because the 6-3 guard has decided to transfer from NIU after his first year in the program.

Lipnisky, a former all-stater from Rolling Meadows High School, was reportedly dissatisfied with the support for the basketball program.

Lipnisky was third in minutes played for the Huskies last year, second in assists, and sixth in scoring and was named to the Mid-Continent Conference all-newcomer team.
