For those anticipating the next season of the Disney shorts incubator, Launchpad, applications for the third season have now opened.
Disney announced the opening via an Instagram post and revealed the deadline for entries is June 2.
Launchpad is known for highlighting new and upcoming talent from underrepresented backgrounds.
For this season’s theme, applicants must submit a work for the theme “forward.”
This theme fits perfectly with other seasons in showcasing unique stories.
In Season 1 the focus was on discovery, Season 2 focused on connections and now Season 3 brings it together by moving forward.
To learn more about the program and to apply for consideration, visit the Disney Launchpad website.
Unlike prior seasons which featured six episodes, season three will only be making three.
This move seems interesting considering how popular the first two seasons were.
In 2022, Launchpad received a nomination for Outstanding Short-Form Series – Comedy or Drama during the 2022 NAACP Image Awards. The short film “The Little Prince(ss)” received a nomination for Gold List Awards in 2022 as well.
In January three short films, “The Roof,” “Project CC” and “Black Belts,” also received nominations for the 2024 Outstanding Short-Form Series – Comedy or Drama for the NAACP Image Awards.
Hopefully with fewer films this season, the series will be able to put more focus on the films, but only time will tell.
