Stadium View II gets wrong registration
April 2, 1991
Residents of Stadium View II apartments were sent voter registration cards with bogus information.
The registration cards said that the complex, 1315 W. Lincoln Hwy., was in Ward 6 instead of its actual ward, Ward 7.
The mistake was made because the apartment complex is new and this was the first time registration cards were sent there, said DeKalb County Clerk and Recorder Sharon Holmes.
She said that there is no natural boundary, like a road, between the apartment complex and a neighboring building, which is in the 6th Ward.
Holmes said her office thought the complex was farther east than it actually is and placed it in the wrong ward.
The correct information has been sent out to the registered voters of Stadium View II. The correct polling place is the Floor to Ceiling Store at 1515 West Lincoln Highway.
If uncorrected, the mistake would have caused more problems because the 7th Ward is in the must elect an alderman today while the 6th Ward has no aldermanic election this year.
Holmes said the mistake was discovered by Jordan Kagan, a candidate in the 7th Ward race. She said Kagan called and discussed the matter with her and the mistakes were corrected.
Kagan said he found the error while talking to people at Stadium View II.
During the spring semester voter registration drive, Kagan registered a number of residents of the complex to vote, he said. When Kagan received the latest voting information, he saw that the residents of Stadium View II were not in the correct ward.
“The county clerk’s office made an honest mistake, but they do a top-notch job, especially considering the amount of work they do,” Kagan said.
He added that the office “corrected the error in a matter of hours” and that “it is a very fast, efficient and professional office.”
