DeKALB – Every college student’s favorite late-night eatery is back open and in full swing in time for the new school year.
D.P. Dough reopened July 28 under new ownership with all new staff.
“We are under corporate now, we’re not under franchise so we have all new staff and management,” D.P. Dough General Manager Alyssa Walters said.
The calzone restaurant was unexpectedly shut down on June 25 by the city of DeKalb. A bright orange notice sign on the establishment’s door could be seen over the summer stating D.P. Dough was ordered to cease and desist from operations.
D.P. Dough, located at 215 W. Lincoln Highway, is a college-oriented restaurant that sells over a dozen types of calzones, a type of folded pizza that can be found with foods such as ham, cheese, mushrooms and bacon stuffed inside.
The restaurant opened Sept. 26, 2023, and attracted the college crowd since they’re open from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday through Sunday. Students can grab a bite to eat after a late night out from the bars or after a late-night study session.
With a few new menu items and Huskie Bucks availability coming soon, old and new customers should check out the new D.P. Dough, only a short walk from campus.
“In a couple of weeks we should be accepting Huskie Bucks,” Walters said. “We have most of the same things from the last menu… but all of our stuff is made fresh, no pre-made.”
The dine-in and take-out restaurant reopened just in time for the new academic session, just as NIU students are back on campus.
