DeKALB – After an improbable victory over the University of Notre Dame, senior running back Antario Brown and senior defensive tackle Cade Haberman have earned co-honors for Huskie of the Week.
Brown got the Huskies up and running early with an 83-yard touchdown reception on NIU’s opening drive to tie the game at 7-7.
Brown accumulated 225 total yards and the team’s only touchdown. The Savannah, Georgia, native led the Huskies in rushing yards (99) and receiving yards (126).
On Monday, Brown was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Haberman joined Brown on the MAC weekly honors list, earning MAC Special Teams Player of the Week after blocking two Notre Dame field goals.
Haberman’s first block came in the final moments of the first half, rejecting a 48-yard attempt to maintain a 13-7 lead. It was the first NIU blocked field goal since 2021.
The 6-foot-2-inch lineman came in clutch once more, blocking a 62-yard attempt as time expired, sealing the 16-14 win.
Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced Sept. 16.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from Sept. 2 to Sept. 8.
