DeKALB – A Baba’s Steak and Lemonade location has arrived in DeKalb, located at 1015 W. Lincoln Hwy.
Baba’s Steak and Lemonade opened Aug. 5 and is a fast food restaurant known for their cheesesteaks and lemonades. Baba’s is open from 10 a.m. to midnight daily and offers carry out and pickup.
Mina Salib, the owner, provided insight on how the location came to DeKalb.
“Funny story, we have the same restaurant in Aurora, so we had a lot of customers that drove from here to Aurora,” Salib said. “One of the customers kept pushing me to please come to DeKalb. So I was ‘OK, let me take a shot.’ I came and checked it, I liked it, I think it’s a good opportunity for us. So we decided to go forward.”
Salib highlighted some popular menu items that students and the DeKalb community can look forward to.
“The chicken wings and Philly steak. The Philly steak is chopped steak with veggies, onion, green pepper, mushroom. It comes with lettuce, tomato, mayo and cheese. And, of course, seasoning,” Salib said.
Baba’s also offers a variety of different halal options as well as healthy options.
Sylvia Abbaker, a sophomore operations, management and information systems major, said she is excited to have found halal options around DeKalb.
“I heard about Baba’s from a friend in Chicago, there’s a few locations over there. I heard they had a good amount of halal options, so I decided to try it out,” Abbaker said.
Hazer Kanga, a first-year undecided major, expressed her thoughts on Baba’s after trying it for the first time.
“It’s good, and I think I will come back,” Kanga said.
