DeKALB – Many business and internship opportunities were available to students at the annual All-Majors Internship and Job Fair held by NIU.
Many free goods were given out at the event, including water bottles, stress balls and snacks.
The Internship and Job Fair took place from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Convocation Center.
Thomas Upham, Service Center Manager for ABF Freight, subsidiary of ArcBest and representative for the booth at the event, explained what its program offers.
“We are here trying to promote our management trainee program. This is a very logistics and operational heavy opportunity. It’s not so much an internship, but pretty much a starter program for launching into an entry-level position,” Upham said.
Upham also noted the kinds of students the booth received and what he liked about them.
“Primarily supply chain and business admin are a lot of the people that we see come in. There were a few really good candidates that came up that we collected some resumes that we’d like to keep future communication with,” Upham said.
Michael Sensenbrenner, a junior computer science major, mentioned what he liked about one of the booths.
“They have a lot of different products with machine learning and AI, so it was interesting learning about that,” Sensenbrenner said.
Joseph Panzica, an NIU alum, explained what he hoped to get out of the event.
“I’m looking for some sort of main job that I can start off with. I graduated earlier this year and took some off-time after that to do my own thing, help my family, health stuff, and now I’m just looking for something I can start off with,” Panzica said.
Panzica gave his thoughts on the school’s advertising of this event.
“It’s all over the place. I remember always seeing flyers everywhere, specifically for the engineering job fair ones. There were always some on the Engineering Building’s front door,” Panzica said.
