Senior Olivia Southby earned a new personal best time in the 5k race as the Huskies finished in 23rd place at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite.
Southby’s 5k time of 20:35.2 earned her a 171st place finish and her time was 22 seconds faster than her previous best time in the 5k.
NIU finished in 23rd place in a field of 23 schools. The Huskies finished behind the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 22nd place.
This invite wielded a large field for the 5k, with 182 athletes competing.
Graduate student Bailey Wilk was the top finisher for NIU at the invitational, finishing in 120th place with a time of 19:11.7.
Graduate student Camille Jackson was the next Huskie to finish the race, finishing in 150th place. Jackson’s final 5k time was 19:44.1 and was two seconds behind Youngstown State University fifth-year Caylee Mackey.
Sophomore Morgan Gioia finished in 169th place, six tenths of a second behind the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay sophomore Hailie Peters. Gioia finished the race with a time of 20:25.4.
Senior Emma Vorpagel finished in 173rd place with a time of 20:56.5 and she finished 19 seconds behind the University of Dayton junior Samantha Wells.
Graduate student Carly Leonard was the last Huskie to finish the race, coming in at 177th place. Leonard finished the race with a time of 21:12.7.
The Huskies’ next invite will be on Oct. 18 in Peoria for the Bradley Pink Classic, hosted by Bradley University.
