DeKALB – NIU redshirt junior defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard has been named the Mid-American Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Gill-Howard led NIU’s strong defensive effort in Saturday’s 17-7 win against Bowling Green State University with a career-best three tackles for loss and two sacks to lead the Huskies. He also totaled six tackles, five solo, to finish second on the team.
The Upper Iowa University transfer shared this week’s honor with University at Buffalo graduate student linebacker Shaun Dolac. Gill-Howard is the fifth Huskie to earn MAC weekly honors this season and the second defensive player, with senior defensive tackle Devonte O’Malley honored in Week 2.
NIU will be back in action at 2:30 p.m. Saturday when the Huskies (4-2, 1-1 MAC) welcome the University of Toledo Rockets (4-2, 1-1 MAC) to Huskie Stadium for the 117th Homecoming Game.
