After being crowned Mid-American Conference Co-Defensive Player of the week on Monday, NIU football redshirt junior defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard also picked up this week’s Huskie of the Week Award.
Gill-Howard logged a career-best 3 tackles for loss in the defensive-led 17-7 victory over Bowling Green State University on Saturday. He also tacked on 2 sacks, marking Gill-Howard’s first game with multiple sacks of his collegiate career.
He also finished with the Huskies’ second most tackles. Gill-Howard recorded 6 total tackles, 5 of which were solo.
NIU football returns to action for its 117th homecoming at 2:30 pm CT Saturday against the University of Toledo Rockets. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, aired on WDKB and live stats will be available through SIDEARM Sports.
Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced Oct. 21.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from Oct. 8 to Oct. 14.
