DeKALB – DeKalb’s annual Loose-Leaf Leaf Collection will begin Monday and continue until Dec. 6, weather permitting.
Leaves are to be collected Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents of DeKalb should rake their leaves into a narrow row parallel to the curb. Leaf piles must be free of any debris including large tree branches or rocks. To prevent street flooding, residents should not place leaves in the street.
Crews will begin in southern DeKalb and will work toward Lincoln Highway and the northern city limits. The city is predicting three to four collection cycles. To make sure that residents’ leaves are picked up by the final collection cycle, DeKalb residents should ensure all of their leaves are raked to the curb by 7 a.m. Dec. 2.
Schedules and locations change to accommodate weather conditions. Public Works will not collect leaves in the event of snow, according to a press release from the City of DeKalb.
City offices will be closed and there will be no leaf collection on the following days: Nov. 11 for Veterans Day, Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving and Nov. 29 for the day after Thanksgiving.
Lakeshore Recycling will pick up residents’ leaves during their scheduled garbage day. Leaves must be placed in biodegradable yard-waste bags or open garbage cans. Leaves placed in plastic bags will not be collected.
For more information, DeKalb residents can contact the Public Works Office.
