DeKALB – At 12:25 p.m., police received a call about a customer making threats and causing damage at Brian Bemis Toyota of DeKalb Dealership, located at 1890 Sycamore Road.
DeKalb, Sycamore and undercover police went to the dealership after receiving the call, due to the suspect being uncontrollable.
Chad McNett, patrol commander of the DeKalb Police Department, said there were two people injured at the dealership.
“One employee was injured, and the suspect was also injured,” McNett said.
The customer used a knife to attack employees, and one employee received a stab wound. The employee was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to a press release from the DeKalb Police Department.
The assailant was shot by police after failing to stop the attack. The assailant was flown to a Rockford hospital for care. He is in stable condition and expected to survive, according to the press release.
McNett said there is no threat to the community.
“No threat to the community; this is totally isolated and seems to be just one individual acting irrationally. At this point, no threat that we know of,” McNett said.
The suspect involved in the incident is 32-year-old Charles Tripicchio from DeKalb. Tripicchio still remains in police custody a Rockford hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover from his injuries.
On Oct. 10, Tripicchio had been released from the DeKalb County Jail due to pretrial release provisions of the SAFE-T Act. Tripicchio had been charged with domestic battery, domestic battery with bodily harm and unlawful restraint following an incident with a family member which occurred at his home on Oct. 9.
All people involved in the investigation are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
