Aurora-NIU game changed

After going winless in its first nine games, the NIU baseball team has waited long enough to taste its first victory. NIU found out Tuesday it would have to wait at least one more day.

After observing the poor-playing surface of their home field Monday night, NIU decided to move the Tuesday contest to Aurora. The match was then postponed until Wednesday at 3 p.m., due to poor playing conditions at Aurora’s Snell Field.

“Last night’s rain really did us in,” Aurora Sports Information Director Tom Nelson said. “We have no tarp and the storm left about a foot of mud around the lip of the infield. The basepaths are fine, but it’s the entire infield that we’re worried about.”

Nelson went on to say that team officials believe that the field will be playable for the makeup game.

The Huskies, who have shown improvement in their past few outings, hope to get over the hump against the Spartans, last year’s Division II runner-up.
