Disciplinary actions protested

Residents of floor 6-B in Stevenson Towers South slept in the halls last night in protest of the threat and actual removal of residents because of floor damage.
“We’re just trying to be heard,” said resident Vince Cipresso.
About 30 to 35 residents organized a sleepout in the hallways to protest the disciplinary actions of Student Housing for the floor damage.
“The people that haven’t been doing the damage have been getting tossed,” Cipresso said. Student Housing is “trying to make an example of us,” he added.
Cipresso said the damage has escalated during the year, but the wrong people are getting blamed. “The people that have not been written-up may be doing the damage,” he said.
The most recent case of floor damage reported was when an elevator door was sealed with tape, prompting the removal of two floor residents. Residents Bob Fugil and Terry Kern have been told to move.
“There has been a lot of stuff happening and they’ve been pinpointing certain individuals,” Kern said.
“After they move us, then we get an appeal,” Fugil said. “The whole system is screwed up.”
“The judicial system is basically a joke,” said Roger Stell, a junior resident of the floor.
Students with previous write-ups have been receiving letters from the Housing Department and the residence hall advisers, even though it has not been proved they actually caused the damage, Cipresso said.
“They’ve got the administrative decisiveness of Pavlov’s dog,” said resident Matt Misters. “We feel like we’re trapped or in prison.”
Last week, floor resident Bob Betts complained at an open questioning of a candidate for director of Student Housing about damage on the floor.
However, Betts was told he couldn’t ask the questions about the floor damage because the questions could not be answered by all candidates.
