DeKALB – NIU has recently partnered with Waubonsee Community College to offer a new scholarship for transfer students called the Waubonsee Excellence Scholarship.
The Waubonsee Excellence Scholarship is worth $2,000 per year for a maximum of two consecutive years and is eligible for individuals who received the Gustafson Scholarship previously.
The Gustafson Scholarship is awarded to students based on scholastic achievement, leadership characteristics and citizenship characteristics, according to the Waubonsee Community College website.
Gustafson scholars who graduated with an associate degree from Waubonsee Community College with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 are eligible for this scholarship, according to a news release.
Gustafson scholars who are part of the NIU Honors program will earn an automatic Honors Engaged experience which counts toward graduating with honors at NIU, according to the news release.
“Through numerous programs and partnerships, we have a long history of working closely with Waubonsee Community College and a shared vision to provide a smooth transfer experience and clear pathways to personal growth, professional development and career success,” NIU President Lisa Freeman said via the news release. “We’re proud to offer the Waubonsee Excellence Scholarship as an added benefit and opportunity for some of the top students at WCC to continue their education and succeed at NIU.”
