NIU’s softball squad has jumped out to a 6-6 record after a three-day Texas Aggie II Tournament March 8-10 and the Houston Invitational March 14-16.

NIU opened the Aggie Tourney Friday with an exciting 8-7 triumph over Texas A & M. NIU followed that with a 1-0 loss to Indiana State and a 3-2 defeat to Oklahoma City. Then NIU downed Sam Houston State 6-3 before losing to Penn State 6-2. Sunday’s action opened with NIU denouncing Central Michigan 2-1. NIU then lost to Kansas 4-0 but beat Southwest Texas State 3-2.

In the Houston Invitational, NIU lost 4-1 to Oklahoma State and 3-0 to Louisiana Tech before beating Texas Arlington 6-2.

The Huskies’ baseball team suffered three big losses in its two-day Saint Louis University Tournament March 9-10.

Iowa dished the Huskies a 16-3 loss Saturday. NIU was handed an 11-0 loss from Southwest Missouri State and a 19-2 defeat from Saint Louis Sunday.

The Huskies were toppled by Illinois Saturday 15-0 and 13-0.

T.C. Dantzler was NIU’s only wrestler to advance to the NCAA Championships March 14-16 but became a 9-4 victim in his first bout of the 158-pound division.
