DeKALB – Speaker Manny Corpuz announced that Senator Matt Robinson was dismissed from the SGA Senate due to too many absences at the Student Government Association meeting Friday.
“I’d also like to point out that Senator Robinson has been removed from the senate due to accumulating a total of three absences in the semester. This serves as a reminder that if you know you are going to be absent, please fill out an absence form on Huskie Hub — takes less than five minutes and prevents you from running into problems like this during the semester,” Corpuz said.
2025 BOARD OF ELECTIONS COMMITTEE SELECTED
A ranked choice voting system was used to choose members for the Board of Elections. Voting members included all of the senators.
“The way we have it set up, as of last year too, we voted on a ranked choice vote, so basically that you rank the candidates based on how you would like, and it’d be just whoever gets the most or whoever’s on top the most gets the top vote,” Corpuz said.
Senators who are part of SGA or individuals who plan to run in future SGA elections are prohibited from being on the Board of Elections.
The individuals selected as Board of Elections members are Corpuz, senators Trevor Ivy, Paul Samsonek, Caitlin Field, Isaiah Samuel and Vice President James Innis.
Voting for the Board of Elections passed in a vote of 10-0-0.
BILL TO UPDATE THE DEFINITION OF SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING AND BILL TO CLARIFY THE TRANSITION PROCESS OF ELECTED PAID OFFICIALS
In a vote of 10-0-0, SGA passed SB56012, a bill which clarifies the rules of supplemental funding in the bylaws, according to Corpuz. Also in a 10-0-0 vote, SGA passed SB56014, which is a bill to transition the process of paid elected officials.
“This bill requires all paid positions to write transition materials, and it can be brought to the office of the speaker. This ensures that a smooth transition of power is created and as well as leave previous results from the previous semester or previous session into the upcoming session,” Corpuz said.
SGA senate meetings are open to the public and held at 4 p.m. Fridays, with locations posted in the senate’s agendas. SGA minutes and intent-to-speak forms are available on Huskie Hub.
