The full release of the next hero-based multiplayer game, “MARVEL Rivals,” is fast approaching with more characters and possibilities than ever before.
Releasing Dec. 6 for Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the Epic Games Store, “MARVEL Rivals” is a six versus six multiplayer, hero-based game that features beloved and iconic characters from the Marvel universe.
Similarly to games like “Overwatch” or “Valorant,” players will be able to utilize each character’s active and passive abilities to create effective strategies and tactical maneuvers.
Each character will have around three to four main abilities and one super ability that is unique to that specific character.
Earlier this year, interested players were invited to participate in a closed beta test, a short period in which chosen players would be able to experience the game early, and play with a limited number of characters.
These characters were Peni Parker, Loki, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk/Bruce Banner, Jeff the Shark, Namor the Sub-mariner, Storm, Adam Warlock, Star Lord, Magik, Scarlet Witch, Dr. Strange, Groot, Hela, Black Panther, Magneto, Mantis, Rocket Racoon, Punisher, Luna Snow, Venom and Spider-Man.
After the closed beta test, several character trailers were released over the course of the past few months featuring several new characters that weren’t in the beta test as well as revealing the official release date of the game.
The characters revealed were Captain America, the Winter Soldier, Psylocke and Moon Knight, with each trailer showcasing their abilities and specialties.
However, while a better picture can be made of the full character roster, there are still six more characters that are completely unknown and fans can only speculate on whether other infamous characters such as Doctor Doom, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Captain Marvel or War Machine will be playable characters.
Crossplay, a feature that allows players on different systems such as the Xbox and PlayStation to play together, is unknown as to if it will be included in the base game.
With the game’s release date right around the corner and what seems like an endless number of potential characters in the Marvel universe, it leaves fans questioning who those six remaining characters might be.
