DeKALB – Senator Matt Robinson was reinstated as senator in the SGA meeting Friday after being dismissed from the student government body one week prior for accumulating too many absences.
Robinson’s dismissal was announced in the previous meeting due to accumulating three absences during the semester. Speaker Manny Corpuz announced Robinson was reinstated after his appeal was approved by the Rules and Procedures Committee. SGA holds its meetings every Friday at 4 p.m.
“He made an appeal to my Rules and Procedures Committee, which voted to reinstate,” Corpuz said. “This reinstatement is only an appeal for a single absence that he has completed as his absences are the reason why he was removed.”
ELECTION COMMISSIONER APPOINTED FOR THE SPRING 2025 ELECTIONS
Zach Althoff was appointed as the election commissioner for the spring 2025 SGA elections in a 9-3-3 vote. Althoff made his case as to why people should vote him into the position.
Althoff said he led the Interfraternity Council Executive Board election process and that transparency and fairness were important to him during this election. He also assured the SGA that he wants to uphold the integrity of the election.
“Overall, I’m excited for the opportunity to oversee and enhance the electoral processes of the elections, and I assure you, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our elections reflect the integrity and excellence of our student body,” Althoff said.
SENATOR STIPEND RUBRIC FOR THE SPRING 2024 SEMESTER
The new senator stipend rubric for the spring 2024 semester was passed in a 13-0-1 vote.
Corpuz believed that the original stipend in the operating manual seemed harsh and that he made it on the assumption on what he could do.
“This also needs to be said that I get paid to be here, so I am constantly helping as you are trying to help SGA. You guys, this is the only form of payment for SGA,” Corpuz said.
SGA senate meetings are open to the public with locations posted in the senate’s agendas. SGA minutes and intent-to-speak forms are available on Huskie Hub.
