Three finalists in Burger King’s inaugural Million Dollar Whopper Contest come closer to the final prize, with voting set to end Thursday, Dec. 5. 

Back in February, the members of Burger King’s rewards program had the opportunity to share their custom whopper creations with the fast-food giant for a chance of winning a million-dollar prize and have their sandwich creation added to the menu for a limited time. 

“Burger King is all about Having It Your Way, and this contest is a true embodiment of that,” said Pat O’Toole, chief marketing officer of Burger King in a press release. 

In the spirit of the contest, Burger King also offered $1 Whoppers to the first one million customers who redeemed the promotion through the Burger King app. 

The three final Whoppers were the Fried Pickle Ranch Whopper, submitted by Fabian from California, the Mexican Street Corn Whopper, submitted by Kelsie from Nebraska and the Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper submitted by Calvin from California.   

Each Whopper offered a unique blend of flavors, but some worked out better than others. 

FRIED PICKLE RANCH WHOPPER 

The Fried Pickle Ranch Whopper contains a beef patty, ranch, lettuce, fried pickles, bacon and swiss cheese. 

The sauce was tangy and creamy but the fried pickles left a lot to be desired. Bits of the fried pickles were soggy from the sauce and other parts were hard from being fried. It was not a pleasurable flavor experience. 

The fried pickles were better left on the side rather than in the sandwich itself. The bacon and Swiss cheese were a good addition however, and worked well with the Whopper flavor profile. 

MEXICAN STREET CORN WHOPPER  

The Mexican Street Corn Whopper contains a beef patty, Mexican-street corn sauce, lettuce, tomato, corn tortilla chips and spicy queso. 

The sauce was a zesty experience that really added to the flavor of the burger. The queso and the tomato also paired well together for a good flavor balance. 

However, like the Pickle Ranch Whopper, this burger also suffered from sogginess, as the corn chips left a lot to be desired and dampened the experience of the burger.  

MAPLE BOURBON BBQ WHOPPER

The Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper contains a beef patty, maple bourbon barbeque sauce, crispy onions and jalapeños, maple-candied bacon and American cheese. 

A delightful treat for the taste buds, the BBQ sauce was just the right mix of sweet and zesty with all the different flavors coming together in harmony for a bacon filled, cheesy experience. 

A clear front runner, the maple BBQ was the only Whopper that didn’t result in disappointment with soggy bits. Thank you Calvin from California for a wonderful creation.
