DeKALB – Joseph Lovelace, J.D., the director and attorney of the Students Legal Assistance office in the Peters Campus Life Building, had his last day on Nov. 30, and a new attorney will be taking his place on an interim basis.
According to a university statement, “Jeanne Meyer, J.D., has returned to NIU to lead Student’s Legal Assistance (SLA) on an interim basis through the end of January 2025. She will oversee SLA’s graduate assistants and together ensure that all currently open cases have representation, and that students’ legal questions and concerns can be addressed. Student Affairs is currently working on longer-term staffing/transition plans for beyond February.”
Following Meyer’s temporary term, another interim position for director of student legal assistance is listed on NIU’s Human Resource Services job search website, with a term from Jan. 15 to July 31, 2025.
When asked whether there will be a permanent director position following the second interim director position, the university reiterated they are working on longer-term staffing and transition plans.
