NIU baseball announced its 2025 schedule Dec. 18, with 18 games being played at home.
Beginning the 2025 season on Feb. 14, the Huskies will take on the 2024 Southland Conference Tournament champions in Nicholls State University. NIU then travels further south to take on Southeast Missouri State University, the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament champions, Feb. 21. Both series will see the Huskies take on 2024 NCAA Tournament qualifiers.
“I am excited about this season’s schedule,” NIU baseball head coach Ryan Copeland said via NIU Athletics. “We begin the year with five consecutive weekends on the road, which is always challenging, but that’s the reality of college baseball in this part of the country. Our first two series feature opponents that made the NCAA Tournament last year, followed by a trip downstate to face another talented Ohio Valley Conference program. We will always look to play quality opponents early in the season to help us prepare for conference play.”
Mid-American Conference play begins March 7 on the road against Kent State University and continues the following weekend against Miami University.
After starting the season with 17 games on the road, the Huskies return to Ralph McKinzie Field at Walt & Janice Owens Park on March 21 when they take on Central Michigan University.
The Western Michigan University Broncos, the 2024 MAC Tournament champions, come to DeKalb April 25 for a three game series against the Huskies. After a midweek game at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and an away series against Eastern Michigan University, the Huskies begin their final homestand May 6 against Illinois State University.
The final home series of the season comes against the University of Toledo from May 9 to 11. The Huskies then round out the regular season on the road against Bowling Green State University, the 2024 MAC regular season champions, beginning on May 15.
The MAC Championship will take place May 21-25 in Avon, Ohio, should the Huskies qualify for the tournament.
