The 97th Academy Awards will take place March 2 and the nominees for the legendary award ceremony have finally been revealed.
The Academy Awards is an annual event, beginning in 1929, in which Oscars are given out to films, actors and actresses that have delivered a high quality performance. The awards are voted upon by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The nominees were announced by two comedic actors, Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott, in a live broadcast Thursday. This announcement was delayed twice due to the ongoing Los Angeles fires.
The film “Emilia Perez” led the night with nominations in 13 categories. The films “Wicked “and “The Brutalist” followed behind each with 10 nominations of their own.
“Emilia Perez” almost tied for the most nominations for a movie in Oscars history. The record is held by “La La Land,” “Titanic” and “All About Eve” with 14 nominations each.
BEST PICTURE
The nominations for the best picture were “Anora,” “The Brutalist,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Conclave,” “Dune: Part Two,” “Emilia Pérez,” “I’m Still Here,” “Nickel Boys,” “The Substance” and “Wicked.”
ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
The nominations for animated feature film are “Flow,” “Inside Out 2,” “Memoir of a Snail,” ”Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl” and “The Wild Robot.”
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
The nominations for actress in a leading role are Cynthia Erivo in “Wicked,” Karla Sofía Gascón in “Emilia Pérez,” Mikey Madison in “Anora,” Demi Moore in “The Substance” and Fernanda Torres in “I’m Still Here.”
ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
The nominations for best actress in a supporting role are Monica Barbaro in “A Complete Unknown,” Ariana Grande in “Wicked,” Felicity Jones in “The Brutalist,” Isabella Rossellini in
“Conclave” and Zoe Saldaña in “Emilia Pérez.”
