Christopher Mendez gives the audience a bow during the claps after the conclusion of the three movements of “Jelek, Op. 5b” composed by György Kurtág. This first piece of the recital was originally written in 1961 but was edited and re-released in 1994, making it the newest of the four pieces of the recital. (Totus Tuus Keely | Northern Star)
Gallery: Graduate Cello Recital of Christopher Mendez
Christopher Mendez on the Cello is accompanied by Minjung Kim on the piano during his performance of “Sonata no. 1 for cello and piano, Op. 102” composed by Ludwig Van Beethoven. The second movement follows its name closely, “Adagio-Andante-Allegro vivace” increasing in speed but also dynamics until the pattern restarts near the end for a triumphant finish.
