NIU men’s tennis (3-1) secured a dominant 7-0 home victory against Judson University (0-2) on Sunday. The Huskies controlled the match, winning all six singles matches and two doubles matches.
Two standout performances came from NIU freshmen Gustavo Juarez Lopez and Pratyaksh.
“It was great to see them come out in their first dual matches and get some victories,” said NIU men’s tennis head coach René Vidal when asked about the freshmen. “They worked so hard in practice, they really earned their success.”
In singles play, junior Iker Gaztambide Arrastia set the tone with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Judson senior Chadd Kerrigan.
Sophomore Saul Berdullas followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Judson freshman Javier Sanchez.
Huskie juniors Federico Scotuzzi and Iker Dellien Velasco both came from behind to take three set matches.
Scotuzzi overcame Judson freshman Florian Koppitsch 2-6, 6-1, 6-1, while Velasco defeated Judson sophomore Nicolas Donoso 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Pratyaksh defeated Judson junior Brock Dawson 6-1, 6-3. Lopez bested Judson sophomore Cesar Otondo Villafan in a three set battle 7-6, 6-3, 7-0.
In doubles, Berdullas and sophomore Sam Klein sealed a 6-1 victory over Koppitsch and Villafan.
Gaztambide Arrastia and Scotuzzi earned a decisive 6-2 win defeating Kerrigan and junior Joshua Bavich to clinch the doubles point for the Huskies.

The Huskies will look to continue their win streak at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Normal when they take on Illinois State University.
