DeKALB – After dropping double-digit points in back-to-back games, senior guard James Dent Jr. from the NIU men’s basketball team has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
Dent scored a team-high 18 points in the Huskies’ loss to Western Michigan University on Tuesday. Four days later, he followed it up with an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double, helping NIU knock off Ball State University for its first Mid-American Conference win of the season.
This is Dent’s first Huskie of the Week honor and the first time an NIU men’s basketball player has received the accolade since last season.
Now, Dent will look to build on last week’s performances as the Huskies prepare for their toughest test of MAC play so far: a matchup with the defending conference champions and league-leading University of Akron Zips. The action will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN+ inside the Convocation Center.
Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced Feb. 3.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place from Jan. 20 to Jan. 26.
