Graduate supports U.S. with sticker sales
February 1, 1991
For some, supporting U.S. troops is something that should be done, no matter what their feelings on the war.
NIU graduate Dave Goodin decided to show his support for the troops by selling bumper stickers with the slogan, “Get in and get out!”
Goodin works as an exercise physiologist and is the chief executive officer of Freedom Innovations on the side. The stickers are being sold for $2 each—with 10 percent of the proceeds going to Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, VietNow and West Coast Organization “Peace.”
Goodin said he served in active duty for two years and has friends still serving. Goodin said he wanted to show them that he is with them, even though he is not fighting.
NIU student Bill Martin, an active Army reservist, is helping Goodin out with sales. Martin became involved with Goodin’s project because the two are friends from their high school days.
“I feel it’s a great way to show my support for troops in Saudi Arabia and the president’s decision to declare war after no negotiations were made,” Martin said.
Marty Loughlin, NIU branch president in charge of Institute for Excellence of Sales of the American Marketing Association, will be supplying the manpower for the tables to be set up.
“Even if you don’t particularly agree with the policies, you should still support the troops,” Loughlin explained.
The stickers will be sold Feb. 4, 5 and 6 in front of the Pow Wow in the Holmes Student Center, as well as in DuSable, Cole and Wirtz halls.
