DeKALB – After signing 20 freshmen during the Early Signing Period in December, NIU football wasn’t nearly as busy on National Signing Day on Wednesday, welcoming just four new faces.
The Huskies added fullback Devin Habermehl, defensive tackle Zach Morrisroe, kicker JJ Schlenhardt and wide receiver Landon Tate, putting NIU’s 2025 recruiting class at 24 signees. Habermehl, Morrisroe and Schlenhardt each hail from the Land of Lincoln – the three being natives of Collinsville, Oswego and Park Ridge, respectively.
With the latest signings, NIU has the sixth-ranked recruiting class in the Mid-American Conference, according to 247Sports. It also ranks as the highest-rated class in program history.
In addition to their four new signees, the Huskies also gained a pair of 2026 commitments Wednesday from quarterback Dane Hatfield and running back Nelsyn Wheeler.
With a handful of hard commits and incoming transfers still to be announced, NIU is expected to finalize its roster additions in the coming days before spring practices begin in March.
