The Super Bowl is famous for having some of the wackiest, unhinged and out-there commercials of all time. However, this year’s set had less memorable commercials compared to past years.
Here are some of the most eye-catching and entertaining commercials from the Super Bowl LIX:
Starting out with the horrifying question of “What if there was no galaxy far, far away,” this commercial for Disney+ paints a picture of a world that doesn’t have series such as “Star Wars,” “The Bear,” “Frozen” and “Only Murderers in the Building.”
This commercial finishes with a humorous, positive tone grateful that “a whole bunch of people were murdered in that building,” a reference to the show and comedic enough to invoke a smirk on anyone’s face.
DORITOS: CRASH THE SUPER BOWL: ABDUCTION
This commercial advertising Doritos chips features the trope of UFO abductions but with a twist. Instead of people being abducted, the alien tries to commit the unforgivable act of swiping a man’s Doritos.
The clash leads to a humorous tug of war between the man and the UFO which, at one point, has the man being used as a human ping pong ball between the floor and ceiling.
The confrontation ends with the Doritos sling shooting through the UFO, cleaving it in two before exploding a second later and immediately cutting to the end of the commercial.
This commercial can be summarized in one word: “Relatable.” This advertisement for Coors Light beer appeals to everyone who hates Mondays and has a hard time getting the week started by using the comparison of sloths.
From face planting into a door before they could get through to news coverage of a “slow” car chase moving at 2 mph, the commercial gets better and better once you watch it again and notice more of the minor details.
MOUNTAIN DEW: KISS FROM A LIME
Ever seen a human face melded to the body of a seal? Well, look no further as this commercial will show you just that and make you question what you’re even looking at.
This commercial for Mountain Dew’s baja blast soda features the face of musician Seal, a British singer and songwriter, on the body of a seal singing a parody of one of his songs, “Kiss from a Rose,” making for one of the most cursed things you’ll see all day.
While not “laugh out loud” funny, this advertisement is still more than entertaining to watch. Promoting Reese’s chocolate lava big cup, it shows a crowd of people addicted to the treat trying to get a warm sample from a river of actual lava.
Security does whatever they can in order to stop the crowd from hurting themselves, leading to a humorous exchange that may not have you on the ground clutching your stomach but is still funny to watch.
FOUNDATION TO COMBAT ANTISEMITISM: NO REASON TO HATE
There is no humor behind this commercial, but the message behind, to stand up to all hate, hits directly in the heart.
A short commercial lasting only 15 seconds, this message highlights some of the reasons people hate each other and ends with a powerful line from Snoop Dogg, “I hate that things are so bad that we have to do a commercial about it.”
This advertisement will give you a feeling of nostalgia, featuring mascots from other commercials such as Puppy Monkey Baby, Mr. Clean, Chester Cheetah, the Pillsbury Doughboy, Kool-Aid man, Energizer bunnies, the Green Giant and the centaur from the Old Spice Swagger deodorant commercials.
With a cast of characters that could fit in their own Super Smash bros. game, all of them race through the city towards the porch of a family who ordered groceries.
