PlayStation’s State of Play is a showcase of future video games and additional gaming content coming to the current PlayStation systems, including the PS4, the PS5, and the PS5 Pro. The State of Play was featured on Feb 12.
The State of Play featured all kinds of unique and fascinating games. From the fast-paced and vibrant gameplay of Sonic CrossWorlds, to the exploration of the dystopian world of Days Gone, there plans to be games for all kinds of players releasing within the year.
These games were a mix of first party titles developed by PlayStation’s many directly-owned studios and third party titles developed by independent studios outside of Sony’s ownership. All of the games for this State of Play will be released this year. These are some of the most exciting titles shown at the event.
“Borderlands 4” was the first game shown in the event, heralding itself as the newest entry in the franchise. The trailer focused on the game’s fast-paced movement and gunplay, showing off new weapons and exciting battles against the game’s enemies. The “Borderlands” titles focus heavily upon creating a free environment to use the game’s armory to its full potential when fighting swarms of enemies. This expansion in movement will allow players to be more creative than ever before with the weaponry at their disposal. This game will be released on Sept. 23 only for PlayStation 5.
“Days Gone Remastered” is a remake of the original game that was released in 2019, showcasing its improved appearance and features on the PS5 consoles.
The graphics have been upscaled dramatically to demonstrate the power of the most recent console, improving the game’s visual presentation significantly from its original. It also features new content, including special game modes like Horde Assault, where the player battles swarms of enemy zombies, and Permadeath, a challenging mode where once the player dies, all your progress is deleted and they have to start all over. This content releases alongside a photo mode for players to capture the game’s brilliant visuals for themselves.
This game is planned to be released April 25 for PS5 and PS5 Pro.
FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S: SECRET OF THE MIMIC
“Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic” is the newest game in the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” franchise. It plans to follow a similar style of gameplay as game developer Steel Wool Studios’ previous entry.
This game follows the protagonist working at yet another haunted Fazbear Entertainment attraction, this time focusing around the Mimic, a ghastly creature who can emulate human behavior and uses it to terrorize anyone who draws near it.
The player will explore this cursed place, unlike some of the other FNAF games where you’re stuck in one spot, and survive the animatronics trying to hunt them down.
This game will be released June 13 for the PS5.
LIKE A DRAGON: PIRATE YAKUZA IN HAWAII
“Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” is just as exciting as its title makes it sound. A spin-off from the “Like A Dragon” series, the story follows series favorite character Goro Majima as he gathers a fierce crew and takes to the high seas.
The game features many battles against other pirate crews, using the same beat-em-up style of fighting that fans of the series love. The game is available now for both PS4 AND PS5 consoles.
METAL GEAR SOLID DELTA: SNAKE EATER
“Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” brings back a classic game from the “Metal Gear” series in an HD remastered package.
The end of the trailer gave long-time fans a small teaser at the return of the Snake Vs. Monkey game mode, a crossover game mode with the “Ape Escape” franchise. The game will be released on Aug. 28.
“Monster Hunter Wilds” is a massive action RPG, one that looks to add more to the series than ever before. This trailer is the last to be released before the game’s launch, and it featured many details about the game’s story and gameplay.
From the harsh deserts to the frozen mountain peaks, players must fight these enormous monsters to ensure humanity’s survival in this desolate world. The game will be released on Friday and a new title update will be made available in the spring, featuring the Mizutsune monster and new event quests, though no specific release date has been given at this time.
Finally, “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” is a brand new kart racer for the “Sonic the Hedgehog” series. Featuring characters new and old, this game’s take on the classic racing genre has racers driving through several unique levels and worlds.
This game celebrates the franchise’s long and charming history of the “Sonic Racing” series of games. This can be seen through the game’s core mechanic of the track players racing on changing dynamically between laps as well as the transformation of vehicles. The game has no current release date but can be wishlisted on all digital storefronts.
For those who may have missed this event, the State of Play has been uploaded in its entirety on YouTube. There are plans for another State of Play event coming later this Spring, though no specific date has been stated.
