NIU men’s golf kicked off the 2025 spring season with a second place finish at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational, which wrapped up Wednesday. Headlined by senior Felix Krammer, all five members of the Huskies’ lineup finished within the top-50.
The Huskies remained at second place for the entirety of the tournament, finishing one stroke ahead of West Virginia University. NIU was propelled by a tournament best score of 279 in the first round.
NIU followed up by tallying 285 strokes in the second round and despite competing in harsh weather conditions on Wednesday, the Huskies held on to second place after a score of 291 in the third round.
Competing against his former teammates, Krammer led the Huskies with a 12th place finish. Krammer kicked off the tournament with a score of 66, good for second place following the first round.
Krammer’s first round success was backed by 5 birdies – all in the front nine – and an eagle on the 12th hole. He remained in second place by posting an even-par score of 72 in the second round, but dropped to 12th due to a two-over par score of 74 in the third round.
Finishing as NIU’s second golfer, sophomore Craig Long tied for 17th place. Long played a consistent three rounds, starting with a score of 71 in the first round and 72 in the second round.
Long rounded out the tournament with his best score of the invitational, leaving the third round logging 70 strokes.
NIU had a pair of freshmen compete at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational, with Beau Petersen and Patrick Raupp tying for 32nd place.
Petersen kicked off the tournament with a score of 70 in the first round – his best of the invitational – but was set back by a score of 75 in the second round. Petersen rounded out the tournament improving to a score of 74 in the third round.
Senior Ben Sluzas rounded out the Huskies’ lineup, finishing tied for 42nd place. Sluzas posted an even-par score of 72 in the first two rounds, but cracked amid Wednesday’s unforgiving weather, accumulating 77 strokes in the third round.

The Huskies’ next tournament is the Grand Canyon University Invitational, an all-day event stretching from Mar. 11 until Mar. 12. The tournament will be held at the GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, Arizona.
