“MAYHEM,” Lady Gaga’s seventh studio album, released March 7 and, with its release, she keeps her status as one of pop music’s greatest moguls.
This album is definitely pop mayhem with how diverse and unique each song is. Lady Gaga has so far released her best album of the decade so far. It’s a fun and engaging album with each song sounding sonically different; there is a song for everyone.
Some of the standout tracks on the album are two of its lead singles “Die WIth A Smile,” featuring Bruno Mars, and “Abracadabra” with another outstanding track being “Killah” featuring Gesaffelstein.
“Die WIth A Smile” is a harmonic ballad between Gaga and Mars which is incredible. The chemistry between these two artists throughout the song is perfect.
It’s dramatic and emotional with lyrics such as “If the world was ending, I’d wanna be next to you / If the party was over and our time on Earth was through / I’d wanna hold you just for a while and die with a smile.” This song earns a spot in any playlist.
“Abracadabra,” for me, is the most unique song on this album with an electronic industrial funk instrumental and its absolutely infectious and fun to sing post-chorus. There is nothing to not like about this song as it’s fun to dance and vibe to.
“Killah” is probably the third strongest song of the album because this song is so groovy, seductive, powerful and the production done by Gesaffelstein who produced songs for The Weeknd such as “I Was Never There” and “Hurt You” compliments the vibe of the song and Gaga’s lyrics as well.
Killah is a funky song that’s so thematically diverse in its production. It’s a song that one would hear in a “50 Shades of Grey” which is not a movie that I enjoy but the song is still good none the less .
Overall this album gets a strong 8.5/10 stars. This album is a musical masterpiece with heavy hitters on its track list and it’s well worth it to listen to it fully. What prevents me from giving this a full nine is that not every song is on equal footing, such as “The Beast” and “Blade of Grass” isn’t as good as the others and I’d rather skip to songs such as “Abracadabra” and “Die With A Smile.”
