NIU men’s tennis (7-10, 0-4 MAC) fell to the University at Buffalo Bulls (10-5, 3-1 MAC) in a 5-2 loss, dropping their fourth-straight conference match.
In doubles play, NIU juniors Iker Gaztambide Arrastia and Federico Scotuzzi were in a tight battle against Buffalo seniors Daniils Snaiders and Cheng Tang, but the match was unfinished with NIU trailing 5-4.
NIU sophomore duo Saul Berdullas and Sam Klein were defeated by Bulls sophomore Michael Malkin and junior Theodoros Mitsakos by a score of 6-2.
Also in a 6-2 loss, NIU freshman Chiao Bo Suo Nan and junior Iker Dellien Velasco fell to Buffalo juniors Emiliano Jorquera and Faiz Nasyam.
In singles play, Gaztambide Arrastia claimed a three-set victory against Mitsakos, winning 3-6, 6-2 first sets before taking a 1-0 (10-8) tiebreaker.
Berdullas secured the second point for NIU, outlasting Tang in a close match, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 10-2.
Scotuzzi was swept in straight sets, losing to Snaiders in 6-0, 6-0 sets.
After a 6-3 first set loss, Bo Suo Nan was defeated by Malkin in a 6-0 second set.
In 6-2, 6-1 set losses, Dellien Velasco fell to Nasyam.
Klein battled at the No. 6 singles spot, ultimately losing to Jorquera, 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 0-1 (4-10).
