SAMTB considers new bus route stop
February 12, 1991
Students who ride the Huskie 3B bus will have to wait for the bus board to decide on a stop at the corner of Hillcrest St. and Blackhawk St.
Bus driver Pete Donnelly, a member of the Student Association Mass Transit Board, asked the board Monday to make the bus stop to show students that the bus board cares about student needs.
But the board decided to wait until later to get input from Huskie Line and the city of DeKalb.
Donnelly said many bus riders who live in apartments near The Jungle, 1027 W. Hillcrest and the Seven-Eleven at 930 Annie Glidden Rd. have asked for a stop in the area.
Mass transit member Rich Parkman said the new stop might lengthen the time of the route and be too dangerous.
“If we keep adding stops, this bus is not going to do a 20 minute route,” Parkman said.
He also said no students called the mass transit office with complaints about the route.
But Donnelly, who has driven the route for a year, said safety is not a problem.
“I know the area very well. The stop that I am requesting (would be) a lot safer than a lot of stops I know about,” he said.
“The whole reason this has come up is because of suggestions from the passengers. I would have never brought this up if I did not think it was worthwhile,” Donnelly said.
SAMTB Executive Director Todd Allen said without board members talking to Huskie Line or DeKalb representatives, they could have problems similar to when a stop near the School of Nursing building was proposed and rejected.
