NIU gymnastics junior Kiera O’Shea earned this week’s Huskie of the Week award after finishing in fourth place all-around at the Mid-American Conference Championship on Saturday and earning a spot in the NCAA Regional Tournament on Monday.
Competing against seven all-around gymnasts, O’Shea amassed an overall score of 38.800 at the MAC Championship. As a team, the Huskies finished in sixth place.
O’Shea clinched the NCAA Regional Tournament with a National Qualifying Score of 1.845.
This season, O’Shea claimed seven victories in the vault event. Of the seven, six were consecutive. O’Shea peaked at the Western Michigan University Tri-Meet on Feb. 23, in which she posted a season-high score of 9.900 on vault.
O’Shea’s performance this season also earned her a spot on the All-MAC First Team.
O’Shea is poised to compete in the NCAA Regional tournament at 1 p.m. April 4 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The next Huskie of the Week will be announced March 31.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place March 24 to March 30.
