Identity of flasher remains unrevealed
February 19, 1991
A man was falsely identified as a flasher at Amnesia during the weekend.
Around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, the DeKalb City Police got a call from a person who allegedly saw a man in the bar who fit the description of a man who has been seen around campus exposing himself.
A composite sketch was drawn with the assistance from one of the victims and printed in The Northern Star on Feb. 12.
The subject was located and approached by a DeKalb City Police officer and a University Police officer, but it turned out that the subject was an older man and had different hair than what was described, said UP Detective Curt Underwood.
The man’s name was not released.
DeKalb Police Lt. Dick Moudy said when a subject is approached, the officer explains the situation to them and tells them they might be a suspect in a particular case.
“We get right to the point and ask them if they would mind telling us where they were at on a certain day,” he said. “We ask them if they would be willing to come down to the station so that a victim could point them out or not.”
Moudy said UPs were called to assist because they were thinking about the campus case that is still under investigation.
There have been about five calls from people who claimed they saw a man who met the description, but there have been no positive identifications, said Underwood, who has been assigned to investigate the campus case.
“We have had people come in to the station to look at photographs of recent offenders, but they have not met the description of the person we are looking for now,” Underwood said.
Underwood said he is still encouraging everyone to either call or come in to the station if they have any suspicions.
