NIU’s promotions and marketing director Mary Mihelich has been looking into a job opening at Northwestern University for an associate athletic director position.

“I haven’t applied,” Mihelich said. “I’m taking a look at the situation.”

The deadline for applications at Northwestern is April 5, said Mihelich, who has not set a personal deadline for a decision.

“I want to see what opportunity exists there, it’s not because I’m unhappy here,” Mihelich said. “Northwestern is a larger athletic program, (but) there are a lot of exciting things going on here (at NIU) also.”

As promotions and marketing director, Mihelich oversees sponsorships, game promotions and other aspects of NIU’s athletic promotions.

Mihelich came to NIU in 1988 after serving as executive assistant in the men’s athletic promotions at Minnesota with current NIU Athletic Director Gerald O’Dell.
