DeKALB – After 25 years in the walls of the Peters Campus Life Building, it is time to open the Northern Star’s time capsule.
Initially sealed in April 2000, the time capsule will be opened at 4 p.m. April 16.
Members of the Northern Star staff from 2000 are expected to attend along with NIU officials, staff, students and members of the DeKalb community.
At this time, the Northern Star will enclose new items contributed by the community into a new time capsule at the same location, not to be opened until April 2050. The time capsules are meant to capture life at NIU and create interest in what NIU students and staff believed were important and reflective of their time on campus.
Members of the public are invited to offer items to include in the time capsule. If interested, send an email to editor@northernstar.info by April 7 indicating the item you would like to include. Due to space constraints and the relevance of the items, we likely will not be able to include all items. Items also may be brought to the Northern Star office during business hours.
After the time capsule is opened, the public is invited to attend an open house for the Northern Star. Come see our newly renovated office in Room 175 of the Peters Campus Life Building.
