NIU men’s tennis (7-13, 0-7 MAC) lost a 6-1 match against the University at Buffalo Bulls (14-5-7-1 MAC) on Thursday as the Huskies remain winless in Mid-American Conference play.
At the No. 1 doubles spot, NIU juniors Iker Gaztambide Arrastia and Federico Scotuzzi were down in a 5-6 battle against Buffalo seniors Cheng Tang and Daniils Snaiders when the match was suspended.
Huskies junior Iker Dellien Velasco and sophomore Saul Berdullas lost to Buffalo junior Theodoris Mitsakos and sophomore Michael Malkin, 6-4.
NIU freshmen Pratyaksh and Chiao Bo Suo Nan were routed in a 6-1 loss to Bulls juniors Emiliano Jorquera and Faiz Nasyam.
After a 6-3 first set, Gaztambide Arrastia was dominated in a 6-1 second set loss to Mitsakos.
Bulls senior Clement Mainguy bested Scotuzi in 6-3, 6-2 sets at No. 3 singles.
Bo Suo Nan was swept by Snaiders in 6-0, 6-0 sets.
Pratyaksh lost to Nasyam in a tiebreaker, falling 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 10-8.
The only point for the Huskies came from Berdullas, who bested Tang in straight 6-2 sets.
The Huskies return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House as they look to earn their first conference win against the University of Toledo.
