Green Bay fallout

More fallout from Saturday’s showdown between NIU’s men’s basketball team and Wisconsin-Green Bay which beat the Huskies 61-53—Phoenix coach Dick Bennett said he’d like to meet the Huskies again. UW-GB has beaten the Huskies twice this season.

“If we were to meet them again, it would be when I’d want to meet them,” Bennett said referring to a possible showdown in the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament at Green Bay starting March 3. “It would mean somebody was going to earn the right to go to the NCAA.”

NIU coach Jim Molinari obviously wouldn’t mind being in that spot either, except for one factor: he would like to change the game’s location. “It’s unfortunate, I understand it because it’s financial, but it’s unfortunate to have to play a tournament on somebody else’s court,” Molinari said.

If there was a third game against the two teams, one possible factor in Green Bay’s favor would be the psychological effect of UW-GB’s season-dominance over the Huskies. But don’t ask Bennett about that.

“You can talk to psychologists about that,” the self-effacing coach said. “I’m just a poor old basketball coach and I don’t understand those things.”
