Setting a school record for runs in a single game, NIU softball (14-22, 9-8 MAC) senior outfielder Jenna Turner has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
Turner scored a combined 6 runs in the Huskies doubleheader against the University at Buffalo (9-24, 4-10 MAC) on Saturday, leading the way for 5-3, 20-2 wins for NIU.
Turner went 3/5 with 1 run and 1 RBI in the first game, before her record setting performance in Game 2.
Sealing herself in the NIU record books, Turner went 4/5 while scoring 5 runs for the Huskies, the most scored in a single game. The 20-2 win also broke NIU’s record for most RBIs in a game, with all 20 runs coming off an RBI.
This is Turner’s first career Huskie of the Week and the first for softball this season.
NIU softball returns home at 4 p.m. Wednesday to take on Bradley University at Mary M. Bell Field.
The next Huskie of the Week will be announced April 21.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place April 7 to April 13.
