Ken Carson, signee of opium PlayBoi Carti’s record label, released his fourth studio album “More Chaos.”
With 21 tracks, “More Chaos” belongs to the mosh pits of Coachella or Rolling Loud and hardcore fans of Carson and the whole opium label.
This album embodies pure rage, with each song having a crazy bass that hits the ears hard while also having songs with beats that sound familiar but have been tweaked to sound a little different.
Some of the stand out tracks on the album for me were “Off The Meter” and “LiveLeak.” I found “Off The Meter” to be one of the more unique-sounding albums. It has a completely different sound from all the other songs on the album, as the beat is a bit calmer and less intense, making it feel a little out of place although the song was added soon after the album was released.
While it’s a song about doing drugs, killing opps and not caring about anything, it fun to listen to with a catchy beat and chorus.
“Off the Meter” was the album’s saving grace and the track I was most excited for. It was the only song featuring both Playboi Carti and Destroy Lonely. For it being the first song Playboi Carti is on with his signees, it’s not bad at all; I just wish Carti’s verse was longer.
With “LiveLeak,” it’s clear Carson is in his bag. The song perfectly encapsulates the vibe of “More Chaos” with its loud and abrasive instruments as well as its mean and punchy lyrics. It’s a production-heavy song, which I don’t mind at all. If someone asked me for a song that describes Carson perfectly, it would be “LiveLeak.”
My main gripe with this album is how similar the songs sound to each other and the poor lyrical prowess of Carson, although no one listens to Carson for his lyrical ability. At first, it was a fun listen, but as the album progressed, I found myself becoming bored and overall just eager to end this album.
Carson’s “More Chaos” shows that he is comfortable where he is at as a musician, too comfortable where it may become his own downfall. There is no innovation in his music and there is nothing new he brought to the table. While this album may be for the mosh pits of some music festival, Carson decides to rock out, as it is not for me. This album gets a 4/10.
