Becoming the first NIU baseball player to hit 2 grand slams in a single game, senior outfielder CJ Cepicky has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
In the Huskies record-breaking 27-11 upset of Northwestern University on April 15, Cepicky became the first player in NIU baseball’s history to hit 2 grand slams in addition to tying the single-game RBI record with eight.
Cepicky crossed home plate five times in the win against the Wildcats, tied with junior infielder Ben Loyd for the most runs in the game.
The Huskies take on Valparaiso University in a mid-week matchup at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Valparaiso, Indiana. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be updated on StatBroadcast.
The next Huskie of the Week will be announced April 28.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were selected based on their performance in competitions taking place April 14 to April 20.
