Students traveled to NIU from all over the state to prepare for the spring semester this past weekend.

Those living in the residence halls began moving in Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. when the hall doors opened for the first time of the new year.

Most students didn’t move in until Sunday, said Margaret Schmuller, NIU housing administrator.

Schmuller said she felt the poor weather Friday affected students who wanted to move in.

“Many of the students just come in, drop off their stuff, go to add/drop and go home,” said Stevenson North Hall Coordinator Jim Rooney.

Therefore, it is “hard to say how many students moved in, or when, because only new students need to check in,” Rooney said.

Rooney said he expected Sunday to be the busiest day for move-ins. Rooney and Schmuller said that

Move-ins went slowly but smoothly and with no major problems.
